Maguire, Maurice
Maurice was a TV and radio continuity announcer/director with BBC Northern Ireland in the late-1970s and early 1980s. He then moved into television news where he was a programme director. Later he was chief producer (entertainment) in Belfast and producer/director on Songs of Praise.
…Comyn, Michael
Michael was an announcer on RTÉ One and RTÉ Network 2 from 1994 to 1997. He subsequently moved to RTÉ Radio 1 as an announcer. In May 1999, Michael was the first voice to be heard on the newly launched RTÉ Lyric FM; he hosted the breakfast show there until May 2000. For the next three years, Michael presented the Weekend Supplement on Dublin radio station 102.2 Lite FM.
Michael’s voice can be heard on the DART and at Irish rail stations.
In 2016, he returned to the TV airwaves, where he can still be heard introducing the programmes on RTÉ One and RTÉ 2. Michael also presents Leap of Faith on RTÉ Radio 1.
Michael is the manager of Comyn Communications Ltd and has been delivering courses in communications since 1986; he also presents in media skills, presentation skills and runs a popular life audit course.
Vance, Simon
Simon served an attachment as a BBC TV network announcer (1984 – 1985). He worked as a freelance presenter for BBC Radio Brighton (1976 – TBC), joining the staff there in 1980, until he moved to BBC Radio 4 (1983). He was there until early 1992 when he emigrated to San Francisco.

Mike started his broadcasting career as a radio presenter on Radio Forth in 1974. In 1979, he joined BBC Scotland as a continuity announcer. The following year, he moved over to STV where he was a continuity announcer, newsreader and sub-editor, until 1990. Mike then moved into production for STV, working as a producer/director until 1999, when he went freelance.
Mike also lectures at Napier University and Glasgow Metropolitan College.
Cassin, Anne
Anne’s broadcasting career began in 1982 as a researcher and reporter, and later news presenter, on pirate station Radio Nova. She joined RTÉ as a continuity announcer in 1987 and became a newsreader and reporter in 1990. She was the presenter of Capital D, an RTÉ magazine series for Dublin residents. She also presented the monthly Crimecall programme. Currently, she co-presents the thrice-weekly Nationwide programme, alongside Mary Kennedy.

Rob was a continuity director/announcer with BBC Wales TV (late-1980s). He also presented The Chart Show and Rave on BBC Radio Wales into the early 1990s. Rob also voiced network BBC TV programme trails (late-1980s/early 1990s). These days, Rob is better known for his stand-up, presenting and acting roles: Human Remains (BBC); Marion and Geoff (BBC); Gavin and Stacey (BBC); presenter, Would I Lie to You? (BBC); Live from the Apollo (BBC).
Lines, Judi
Judi was born in Lincoln. She is a former Anglia Television announcer (1973 – 1976). She moved to BBC TV in Norwich, where she worked as an announcer and newsreader/reporter on Look East.

Tracy was an Anglia Television Through the Night in-vision continuity announcer who popped up whenever Phil Fothergill or Paul Lavers were not around. Tracy graced the announcers’ desk in the late-1980s and early 1990s.

Christie, Bob
Bob started off as an announcer with Scottish TV. He later joined the BBC Scotland announcing team in the mid-1970s and clocked up more than 25 years’ service before he retired in 2000. Like most of the other announcers of his generation, he regularly read the Scottish News summaries in-vision until 1988. In his last few years with the BBC, Bob tended to work on radio rather than TV.
Weston, Colin
Colin was born in London. He left school and joined the press and PR department of ABC Studios in Teddington and stayed for four years. After they lost their ITV franchise, he applied for various announcer jobs across the ITV network.

Tom is a former Associated Rediffusion announcer.
Doody, Pat
Pat announced for Border and Tyne Tees Television (1970s) and also voiced ads for Metro Radio (mid-1980s). He also announced for LWT (dates TBC). He was the voiceover for the Border TV version of Mr and Mrs – his inimitable introduction used for each show: “It’s Mr and Mrs – and here’s your host, Derek Batey”. Most of his time from the late-1970s up until his death in 1990 was spent at Border Television and indeed he was announcing on Border on 27th February 1990, the night before his death.
Caine, John
John was a zany Southern Television reporter (1979 – 1981). He joined Central in 1982 to present the Newshound slot on Central News. He was also a continuity announcer at Central.
Hamon, Francis
Francis was Channel TV’s first staff continuity announcer. He was with the station from its launch in 1962. He is the former deputy bailiff of Jersey and later became an advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey. He was appointed a commissioner of the Royal Court in 1988 before becoming deputy bailiff (1995 – 2000).
Bale, Jenni
Jenni worked as a continuity announcer for BBC TV Presentation (1978 – 1980).

Geri joined the RTÉ Network 2 announcing team in late-1997. She moved on to front children’s TV junctions – on Den 2 – in 1998.
Martin, Edgar
Edgar had a brief stint as a continuity announcer with Ulster Television in the early 1970s before heading around the corner to the BBC and taking on a similar TV role there.

Dean is a BBC TV network announcer (1999 – present). In addition to domestic presentation, he was also the voice of the BBC’s international channel, BBC Prime (dates TBC) broadcasting to Europe, Russia, Africa, Israel and the United Arab Emirates. He has also appeared on two other BBC Worldwide channels (2004 – TBC): BBC Prime (Asia) and BBC Japan.

John was a BBC TV network announcer for 21 years (1964 – 1985), including a period as a senior network announcer (February 1982 to 1985).

Lithgoe, Lynette
Lynette started her television career as an in-vision announcer at Granada Television. She then moved to the BBC in the East Midlands as a presenter (1989) and later became a national BBC TV newsreader (February 1990 – October 1991), mostly on weekend bulletins and for BBC Two’s News View. She also presented the charity appeal programme Lifeline in the late-1980s. She left to join BBC World as a newsreader in 1991.

Fogarty, Noel
Noel was an announcer on RTÉ One and RTÉ Network 2 from 1988 until the mid-1990s. He also worked as a newsreader on RTÉ 2FM during 1992.
C. 1994, Noel spent a year fronting the in-vision junctions on RTÉ One’s daytime service; these segments included interviews with studio guests on a wide range of topics. He also worked on the RTÉ daytime magazine programme Live at 3, filling in for Derek Davis once a week for one year.
In 1997, Noel moved to the Irish News Network (INN), presenting radio news bulletins. In January 2005, he was appointed evening editor at INN.
Flood, Pamela
Pamela is a former Miss Ireland and was an in-vision announcer on RTÉ Network 2 from the late-1990s. She went on to present a late-night programme strand on RTÉ One in early 2000, appearing in-vision.
Pamela left RTÉ in early 2001 but returned c. 2003 to co-present RTÉ One’s fashion show, Off the Rails.

Ben was a BBC TV network announcer (1994 – 1996). He then moved to an announcing role at Channel 4 (1996 – c. 1998).

Bates, Simon
Simon was born in Birmingham and raised in Suffolk and Shropshire. He is perhaps best known for his long stint as a BBC Radio 1 DJ (1976 – 1993).
…Baird, Brian
Long-serving Ulster Television announcer and newsreader. Brian was a regular face on the station during the 1970s and well into the 1980s. He retired from this role c. 1986. He was also a teacher and lecturer at Stranmillis Teacher Training College and a former president of the Ulster Society of Rugby Football Referees.
Brian died in December 1998 after a long illness. He was 69.
Hogan, Catherine
Catherine is a former RTÉ Radio 1 announcer. She was also an RTÉ TV announcer (c. 1993 – 1997).
Sharpe, Brian
Brian was a BBC TV in-vision network announcer (1956) and BBC Midlands announcer (late-1950s).
Robertson, Morag
Formerly Morag Irvine. Morag currently works as a continuity announcer/director on BBC One Scotland. The role previously also covered BBC Two Scotland but that channel was replaced by the network version of BBC Two, just prior to the launch of the BBC Scotland channel. Although the dedicated Scottish content channel has its own team of announcers, some BBC One Scotland voices can also be heard on the BBC Scotland channel.

Steel, Bill
Bill Steel is mainly remembered as Tyne Tees Television’s chief announcer and one of the main presenters of the evening news magazine programme, Northern Life, when it started in 1976.

Montgomery, Stephen
Stephen began his announcing career in the 1970s. He became the senior BBC Northern Ireland announcer in the late-1980s and was heard less and less during peak time, having moved to cover early morning and lunchtime regional news opts, which weren’t part of the rota for his staff until the late-1990s.

Buckley, Lola
One of the pre-recorded voices of BBC Three from its launch in 2003 until its disappearance from linear television in February 2016. Lola was also a regular voice on BBC Choice continuity from early 2000.

Harry was a BBC Radio Scotland announcer who did an occasional stint as a TV announcer in the 1970s.
He has since passed away (date unknown).
Canham, David
David was a continuity director/announcer with BBC Wales TV (summer 2000 – autumn 2002). He performed the final link with the BBC One balloon symbol in March 2002, before the channel was rebranded; during the junction, he also treated viewers to a final glimpse of the balloon-themed channel clock.
He later moved to London to take up a continuity announcer/transmission controller role with BFBS Television, where he remained for three years. He has extensive experience in transmission control, having worked at BSkyB, Molinare and Viasat. During his time at Viasat, he played a role in introducing a tapeless server-based playout infrastructure.
David also provided voiceovers for Teachers TV.
Jones, Robin
Robin’s broadcasting career began as an announcer with Teledu Cymru/WWN (1962). He then moved to BBC Wales as a radio and television announcer (1964 – 1982). When S4C began, Robin was appointed chief announcer (1982 – TBC). Post-retirement, he still occasionally freelanced as an S4C announcer.

Keith worked at BBC Radio Cleveland in the late-1970s, including presenting the early morning show On the Move (1978).
