Canham, David

David was a continuity director/announcer with BBC Wales TV (summer 2000 – autumn 2002). He performed the final link with the BBC One balloon symbol in March 2002, before the channel was rebranded; during the junction, he also treated viewers to a final glimpse of the balloon-themed channel clock.

He later moved to London to take up a continuity announcer/transmission controller role with BFBS Television, where he remained for three years. He has extensive experience in transmission control, having worked at BSkyB, Molinare and Viasat. During his time at Viasat, he played a role in introducing a tapeless server-based playout infrastructure.

David also provided voiceovers for Teachers TV.

Robin’s broadcasting career began as an announcer with Teledu Cymru/WWN (1962). He then moved to BBC Wales as a radio and television announcer (1964 – 1982). When S4C began, Robin was appointed chief announcer (1982 – TBC). Post-retirement, he still occasionally freelanced as an S4C announcer.

White, Geraint

Geraint’s professional career began in IT (July 1994 – March 1999), with various roles in support of IBM mainframe and AS/400 systems. He then moved into broadcasting, with a continuity director/announcer role at BBC Wales TV (March 1999 – December 2014). He was initially BBC Wales staff; he left in November 2007 and returned as a freelance announcer in September 2008.

He joined South Wales Police, as a constable (November 2007 – 2013). After finishing up at the BBC in late-2014, he pursued a career with South Wales Police. He became a chief inspector in December 2017 and, as of March 2019, is based in Swansea.

Geraint’s was the first voice on BBC 2W on 5th November 2001.

From late-1999, she combined this with presentation for BBC Radio Wales. She fronted After Midnight – a pop video-based show on BBC Choice Wales. She also appeared in-vision on BBC 2W, presenting weather forecasts.

Sweet, Mike

Mike was a continuity director/announcer with BBC Wales TV (1997 – 2000) and was one of the regular team of BBC Choice Wales announcers. In 2000, he moved to ETV Bangladesh, where he was executive producer, news; he remained there until 2002. Later, he was an independent producer in Darwin, Australia (2003 – 2006). By 2008, Mike was working as an independent producer in Athens, Greece.

Morgan, Lyn

Lyn’s broadcasting career began in radio, with a presenting job at Swansea Sound (May 1978 – July 1982). He then moved to BBC Wales TV, to a continuity director/announcer position (1982 – mid-1990s). He then switched from an on-air role to management. In July 2000, he set up Lyn Morgan Media Consulting and went freelance as a crisis communications and media specialist.

He then spent a number of years at Aberystwyth University (September 2009 – December 2013), initially as head of communications and public affairs and then director of communications. He returned to BBC Wales in February 2014, as an interim senior communications manager, and then communications and engagement manager.

In August 2016, Lyn returned to an on-air role at BBC Wales.

Bassett-Roberts, Sian

Since the early 1990s, Sian has freelanced as a BBC Radio Wales and S4C announcer. She also had a stint as a BBC Wales TV continuity director/announcer (dates TBC). Additionally, she is a TV producer/director. She currently combines her TV background, experience in tourism and love of cooking to promote Welsh and international cuisine.

Having produced a series of Coginio Welsh cooking DVDs, she has since rebranded as Loving Welsh Food. The group runs food and drink safaris, tasting tours, welsh cooking workshops and food demos/presentations promoting Welsh and International Cuisine.

Owen, Jamie

Jamie was an announcer with BBC Wales TV (early 1990s – 1994), having arrived from BBC Radio 4, where he was a newsreader and announcer. He left BBC Wales continuity to front Wales Today (1994 – January 2018). He also presented a daily morning phone-in programme on BBC Radio Wales. He left BBC Wales in January 2018 to take up a new role with international broadcaster TRT World.

On the announcement of his departure from BBC Wales, Rhodri Talfan Davies, director of BBC Wales, said: “Jamie has helped chronicle every twist and turn in our nation’s story over more than two decades.

“A natural and instinctive broadcaster, he’s made an immense contribution on both radio and television. We all wish him well on his latest international assignment.”

Garmon Rhys, BBC Wales’ head of news, added: “I want to thank Jamie for his huge contribution to BBC Wales over many years.

“A unique broadcaster, he’s been an integral part of BBC Wales Today for over two decades.”

Beaven, Steven

Steve was a regular voice on BBC One Wales, BBC Two Wales and BBC Choice Wales (2000 – 2002). Shortly after leaving BBC Wales, he moved to TV Centre as a network director on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four.

Steve later returned to his roots and worked at ITV News in the Central South region. On any given day he might be production assisting, reporting, and/or producing.

Ilisa presented for Swansea Sound and Red Dragon FM (late-1980s/early 1990s) before joining AA Roadwatch, then BBC Radio Sheffield (October 1991 – October 1994). She later moved to BBC TV News in Norwich and Cambridge (October 1994 – September 1999), working across local TV production for the region – vision mixing, directing live news programmes, floor managing, live studio sound mixing.

Ilisa joined BBC Wales TV presentation as a continuity director/announcer (September 1999 – May 2003). Since then, she’s held various roles within post-production/graphic design – more recently (May 2014 – present), post-production lead.

As of June 2005, she’s a freelance writer. Since January 2013, she’s been working for Boom Pictures as an assistant producer and producer.

Rosser, Matthew

Matthew was a BBC Wales TV continuity director/announcer (1990 – TBC). Previously, he was an ILR presenter with Gwent Broadcasting and Red Dragon Radio. He became a senior channel director but was still occasionally heard on air. He oversaw the design and installation of digital transmission equipment into BBC Wales and was responsible for its subsequent development. He was both the first and last voice (the latter in-vision) on BBC Choice Wales.

Austin, Dan

Dan was an announcer on BBC One and BBC Two network from the mid-1990s. He also worked on BBC Prime and BBC Knowledge. He left BBC TV in early 2002, turning up soon afterwards on BBC Radio 2, announcing and reading the news.

He moved to BBC Wales TV in August 2002, taking up a continuity director/announcer position there.
