Originally from Northern Ireland, Nicola graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in art and design from Ulster University before pursuing a Master’s degree in creative writing at Goldsmith’s, University of London.

Her distinctive soft Northern Ireland accent became familiar to millions as part of the BBC TV announcing team on BBC One and BBC Two from approximately December 2003 to April 2007.

During this period, she also lent her voice to BBC Four and the BBC Learning Zone (c. 2003).

In February 2023, Nicola returned to the BBC TV announcing team on BBC Two in a freelance capacity.

Correspondence

Paul R. Jackson corresponded with Nicola in January 2026 about her career.

“Apologies, I can never remember the dates I worked anywhere, so I never get round to writing a CV or profile.

“I have been lucky to have such a varied and creatively productive career path over many years.

“My work in Northern Ireland included: arts journalism and book reviews for The Irish News and Belfast Telegraph; freelance radio correspondent and live broadcasting for BBC Northern Ireland; and I was a mobile news team leader and press officer for the Ministry of Defence.”

“I had a creative and fulfilling background in publishing, working for the renowned lifestyle publishers Quadrille Publishing – home to top chefs from Gordon Ramsey to Michel Roux.

“I was a scriptwriter and pre-record announcer for UKTV channels and a presenter for the Belfast Arts Festival.”

“Some examples of my work from 2023 to 2025 are on my website.  I’m available for voiceover work and audio narration.

“I’m currently working as a freelance continuity announcer and link writer – live and pre-record – on BBC TWO, primetime, national programming.”

“I live in SW France, where I re-trained as a reflexologist and run The Calming Therapy Room.”
