Edgar had a brief stint as a continuity announcer with Ulster Television in the early 1970s before heading around the corner to the BBC and taking on a similar TV role there.
He moved to the BBC in London in March 1978, to take up a post as a BBC Radio 4 announcer. He remained in that role until 1981.
Edgar spent some time managing the BBC’s Ascension Island facility.
He would later return to BBC Northern Ireland: he produced the George Jones show for BBC Radio Ulster; and he would return to television continuity in 1994.
Edgar also had a spell as head of presentation at BBC Northern Ireland (dates TBC).
Edgar retired from the BBC after 33 years on Sunday 26th February 2006: his final announcement was broadcast at 1.40am on BBC One Northern Ireland.
Edgar died on 25th February 2026, almost twenty years to the day since making his final announcement on BBC TV.
