Marian Davies was born on 23rd November 1940 in Neath, South Wales.
Although she had been set to pursue a career in medicine, her plans changed when she won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she trained as an opera singer.
Her connection with television began even earlier, during her school years, when she was granted leave one day each month for five years to appear as one of the singing children in the television programme Land of Song.
From the mid-1960s through to the late 1970s, Davies was a sought-after vocal presence on the British music scene.
She sang with The Granadiers and as a member of the backing group The Ladybirds, and also performed with the Cliff Adams Singers.
Her recording and broadcast credits from this period include The George Mitchell Choir: Around the World in Song (1965) and The Val Doonican Show on BBC One (1968, and again from 1970 to 1971).

As a performer, she appeared in The Wednesday Play (1965) and in two episodes of The Benny Hill Show (Thames TV/ITV, 1972 – 1973).
She was also a storyteller on Rainbow for Thames Television.
Her acting roles included:
- Nurse in Richard Whittington Esquire (ITV, 1964)
- Ryan and Ronnie (BBC Wales, 1972)
- Nurse in Only When I Laugh (Yorkshire TV/ITV, 1981)
In 1975, Davies joined Southern Television’s long-running children’s series How, taking over from Bunty James as presenter – a role she held until 1981.
She went on to present All Kinds of Everything alongside Fred Dinenage and Julie Stevens (HTV West, 1982) and Sunday Best (Yorkshire TV, 1982).
