Gopal, Luxmy

Luxmy graduated with a BA Hons in history and English literature from the University of Durham.  She was a journalism student at the London College of Communication (2010 – 2011) and began her career as an investigative journalist for Exaro News (August – December 2011).

Luxmy’s first BBC job was as a work experience placement, in a broadcast journalist role at BBC Radio Surrey (September 2011).

She was an investigative/broadcast journalist for BBC South East Today, based in Tunbridge Wells (July 2012 – July 2013) and at BBC Channel Island News, based in Jersey (August 2013 – March 2015). 

She had her first spell in Leeds at BBC Look North as a broadcast journalist (March – December 2015) and returned to Jersey as a video journalist/presenter (January 2016 – September 2017).

In September 2017, Luxmy moved back to Leeds as a reporter and an occasional presenter of BBC Look North. She also presented for BBC London.

She finished up temporarily on Look North on Friday 11th June 2021, to go on attachment to London as a news reporter for BBC News, although she assured her Twitter followers that she would return to Yorkshire in the autumn.  She returned to BBC Look North on 5th April 2022.

During her attachment, she occasionally presented the weekend edition of BBC Breakfast (BBC One): 11th July, 5th September, 28th December 2021 and 1st January 2022.  She has made occasional appearances on the red sofa since 6th February 2022.

Since September 2021, she has presented on the BBC News Channel and BBC World. She made her debut presenting the networked BBC One lunchtime news on Saturday 4th September 2021.  She made further appearances on BBC One until 22nd April 2023.

In May 2022, she joined BBC London for a six-week stint. She presented her first edition of the early evening BBC London programme, in a green screen studio, on Friday 30th September 2022.

In November 2022, she returned to BBC London for a further attachment.

And in June 2023, she presented several editions of The Daily Global on BBC News.
