The “Voice of Central” began his announcing career c. 1986 with a distinctive, authoritative yet upbeat style. Always out-of-vision, Ted’s announcements became synonymous with the station and an integral part of the on-screen brand. His voice could also be heard on “Announcements for Teachers” on ITV Schools (before it moved to Channel 4).
Ted was later part of the announcing team at Channel 5 (early-2003 – TBC).
Marquis, Mary
Mary is best known as the long-serving presenter of various regional news magazine programmes on BBC Scotland. She was also a familiar face on ITV screens as a continuity announcer on Border TV.
Robbie, Sue
Sue was a Granada Television in-vision continuity announcer in the late-1970s and early 1980s. She went on to present a series of networked shows for the company, including Connections, First Post and TX.
Roberts, Karen
Karen is a former Border Television continuity announcer.
Ashe, John
John was a TV newsreader with BBC Northern Ireland in the 1980s, presenting short bulletins mainly, including news summaries within Scene Around Six. He switched to a continuity announcer/director role in the early 1990s.
John retired from the BBC in November 2006. His last on air announcement was on BBC Two Northern Ireland at 12.20am on 1st November 2006.
Bassett-Roberts, Sian
Since the early 1990s, Sian has freelanced as a BBC Radio Wales and S4C announcer. She also had a stint as a BBC Wales TV continuity director/announcer (dates TBC). Additionally, she is a TV producer/director. She currently combines her TV background, experience in tourism and love of cooking to promote Welsh and international cuisine.
Having produced a series of Coginio Welsh cooking DVDs, she has since rebranded as Loving Welsh Food. The group runs food and drink safaris, tasting tours, welsh cooking workshops and food demos/presentations promoting Welsh and International Cuisine.

Jean was an ATV (Midlands) continuity announcer from the launch of the station.

Phil was an Anglia Television announcer (1989). He moved from the announcer’s chair to a behind-the-scenes role, as a producer in the promotions department. He went on to work at The Family Channel and, in 1995, he became promotions manager at the popular QVC channel.

Michael was a television continuity announcer with BBC Northern Ireland in the 1960s.
Hobson, Derek
Derek was an ATV in-vision continuity announcer who hit the big time as the presenter of ATV’s successful New Faces talent contest (1973 – 1978). This was the role for which he is perhaps best known, but he also hosted several other ITV gameshows over the years, including That’s My Dog for TSW. Derek also presented ATV’s regional news programme, ATV Today.
Derek is also believed to have announced on LWT (TBC)
Matheson, Kate
Kate was born in 1936, as Audrey Craig-Brown, in Newton Mearns, a suburb of Glasgow. She took various parts in repertory in theatres in both England and Scotland, sometimes alongside the actor/announcer Graham Roberts, whom she married in 1959.

Barbara was an RTÉ continuity announcer in the early 1970s.
