Verity was a continuity announcer and newsreader with Anglia TV (1980s – early 1990s). She left to get married and is now known as Verity Spencer.
Her husband worked for British Airways in Bahrain and she spent four years in the Middle East presenting news programmes for both TV and radio. She returned to the UK and joined the newly formed BBC World Service Television News.
After starting a family, she concentrated on voiceover work and reading psychology at degree level. She’s now a BACP (Accred) integrative counsellor/psychotherapist.
Her older sister is Judi Lines, a former Anglia TV and Tyne Tees TV announcer.
Correspondence
Paul R. Jackson corresponded with Verity in May 2022.
How did you get into TV?
“After an audition with the BBC in Norwich, I was offered a job co-presenting a children’s programme, Spot On! with, I think, Douglas Salmon? I joined Anglia TV after that.”
During what period were you at BBC World Service TV and who were your colleagues?
“1991 to 1995. Colleagues included Lindsay Brancher, Riz Khan, Alastair Yates and Lynette Lithgow. There were 12 of us, I think.”
What are your memories of former TV colleagues?
“I remember Keith Martin very well; a very happy chap full of fun! He was a lovely colleague to work with, alongside Alastair Yates, sadly deceased.”
