Beccy graduated with a BA Hons in drama from the University of Bristol in 1981. She was a professional actress on stage, radio, television and film before joining the BBC in 1996.
She initially worked on the BBC World Service (English) where she provided pre-recorded continuity.
In December 1999, she made the move to television announcing and became a regular voice on network BBC One and BBC Two, and later BBC Four.
Notable continuity links:
- 18th February 2007: on duty for the first day of the new BBC Two idents.
- 12th August 2012: made the announcement into coverage of the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics.
- 26th September 2018: introduced a compilation of BBC Two idents, which were being broadcast for the final time.
- 28th October 2018: made a spooky appearance as the BBC Two announcer on an episode of Inside No. 9, which featured a fake BBC Two breakdown.
- 3rd April 2021: colleague Duncan Newmarch announced on Twitter that this was Beccy’s last day as a live BBC TV announcer. He also mentioned that Beccy trained him when he first joined the BBC TV announcing team.
Beccy returned to the BBC TV continuity announcing team on a freelance basis in 2022.
