Graham has a wealth of live broadcast experience.
After becoming one of BBC Radio 1’s youngest ever DJs at 21, hosting a Saturday evening show, he went on to present the breakfast show at Essex Radio and the global music magazine programme Multitrack 2 for the BBC World Service.
He’s also presented on BBC Radio 5 Live.
In 1990, Graham got his first TV work, as an announcer with BSB.
He joined Carlton TV at its launch in January 1993, as one of the announcing team. He remained for over a decade and left in 2004.
He presented the ITN Travel News in the London ITV region and was the senior continuity announcer when national ITV 1 continuity was introduced on 28th October 2002.
In addition to continuity announcing, Graham has worked as a presenter and voiceover artist. His clients include BBC TV, Ford Motor Company, Royal and SunAlliance and Braun.
His presenting work includes corporate videos and regular work for the BBC’s Academy and he’s been a compére/warm-up host for many live events.
Graham runs the corporate TV and audio production company Wave Communications as well as being a voiceover for TV and radio commercials for stations in the UK, America, Spain, Dubai and Malta.
Correspondence
Paul R. Jackson corresponded with his ex-Carlton colleague in September 2017.
How did you get the Radio 1 job?
“I just sent a tape to Johnny Beerling and at the time they were looking to showcase new presenters. I went from being a studio assistant at Radio Orwell to being a national radio presenter almost overnight!”
How did you get the job at Carlton?
“I was one of the ‘Squarial’ gang at BSB (remember them??!) and I was on the Galaxy Channel.
“Then after Sky took us over we were all ‘let go’ and I ended up doing a radio show and some cover work at BBC World Service Television.
“Opening of Carlton – 1st January 1993 – at the stroke of midnight, very scary. Another Paul Jackson, then head of programmes, was in the control room!
“He was a very nice guy and very supportive to the team, especially on that opening night.
“Sorry can’t remember my last broadcast date – 2004 sometime.”
Are you still in touch with anyone from those days and what are you doing now?
“In touch with Trish Bertram, who taught me all there is to know about being a continuity announcer.
“These days I produce corporate videos and multi-camera webcasts as well as the odd voiceover or two.
“No radio or TV voice work right now, but who knows.”
What were your career highlights?
“I was lucky enough to have a few.
“First presenter when Radio 1 moved to Egton House in 1985, worked on Live Aid as a back-up presenter and first announcer on Carlton Television.”
