Born Louise Barden in Sheffield. In 1988, she graduated with a BA Hons in Music and Drama from the University of Middlesex. Her first job was as a researcher for Children’s BBC. She then joined an independent radio production company as a sports presenter, introducing events such as Wimbledon and the 1992 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.
In 1992, Louise became a weather presenter at Central TV in Nottingham and worked for two years at LBC in London. In 1996, she joined the Weather Channel at its launch on cable and satellite.
In April 1998, Louise joined the BBC Weather Centre. Since 2002, she has appeared occasionally on BBC One’s Breakfast, as well as on BBC News 24/BBC News Channel and on BBC World News.
She was the BBC One Christmas Day weather presenter once, in 2013. She presented the first weather broadcast from New Broadcasting House studios before and after the BBC News at One on Monday 18th March 2013.
On 3rd August 2016, she famously got a fit of the giggles when BBC News Channel presenter Simon McCoy handed over to her.
Away from the weather studio, Louise has presented Trading Up (BBC One, 2004 – 2006). She also appeared twice with her Trading Up co-presenter Kevin Allan on Ready Steady Cook (BBC Two, 22nd September 2005 and 17th May 2007).
Louise is married to Ian Lear and has two children. She enjoys keeping fit, skiing, cookery and music (plays the piano and clarinet) and visits the theatre regularly.
