Long-standing UTV presenters, Frank Mitchell and Ken Reid today retired from their respective roles with the station.
Frank’s broadcasting career began at the age of 17 with pirate radio station Carousel, based in Dundalk. He later worked as a presenter on Downtown Radio and as a producer with BBC Radio Ulster. He joined UTV in 1987 as a continuity announcer and became the station’s chief weather presenter in 1993.
He has presented a variety of shows for UTV including UTV Life, School Around the Corner, End to End and Ultimate Ulster.
Since 2006, Frank has presented the morning phone-in show on radio station U105, in the 9am – 12pm slot.
Ken’s career in journalism stretches back to 1977. He spent seven years with the News Letter before becoming sports editor and later editor of the Sunday News. In 1987 he moved to the Cork Examiner.
In 1994, he became UTV’s political editor.
